Thank you for taking the time to read these lines. Since this ebook is very short and succinct, I’ll get straight to the point. Interpersonal communication is at the core of everything we do. The way we communicate impacts our reputation, our career prospects, our personal relationships and basically everything else that we are trying to accomplish in this life. We live in a world where, unfortunately, there are many people who can push our buttons, are unprofessional and often straight up rude. The way we humans are designed is not the most optimal for handling such situations. In almost 100% of all cases we take everything personally, even when it’s not. The reality is that our brain is not programmed to analyze such situations real time to determine whether it’s us or the other person. Well, here’s a little secret — when somebody is being rude to you, it’s NEVER you. It’s ALWAYS the other person (unless, of course, you did something really unethical).
I wrote this ebook because I used to have that same issue. I took most of these things personally, even when they weren’t. It caused me quite a few problems during that time and I do wish I behaved differently back then. Unfortunately, we can’t turn back time but we can change our future behavior.
In this playbook I will describe the journey that I went through and how I accomplished this change. This improvement in my emotional intelligence was drastic. It is literally impossible to set me off these days, no matter what you say to me or how hard you try. I’m not saying I became stone cold and don’t care about anything anymore. What I’m saying is — I am now always prepared for the worst interaction scenarios with anybody. I learned how to change my mindset to accomplish this stoic type of emotional intelligence and I’d like to share it with you.
I strongly believe that you don’t need to read really long books with hundreds of pages to become better at this. You may just need a couple of specific life examples and instructions to internalize and operationalize this subtle psychological change.
